Presentation: “Testing in the digit
al age\; AI makes the difference” (45 minutes)
New technology
like Artificial Intelligence and Robotics requires new skills. Testing w
ill grow from evaluating current behavior of an IT-system to forecasting
future behavior. Also\, the boundary between testing and monitoring will
fade. Continuous testing is a prerequisite for implementing DevOps. But i
n the Ops part we’d rather speak of continuous monitoring.
Artificial
Intelligence heavily leans on data\, big data. So data science will becom
e a pivotal topic in the testing profession. And data science\, especiall
y the analytics part is very important in cognitive QA platforms.
With
the addition of physical machines\, we will see the need for digital ass
urance towards new non-functional requirements grow. Think of topics like
ethics (what may an AI system do with the information it gathers) and em
bodiment (how should a robot look to be fit for purpose for your business
process) are important in a new setup of quality characteristics.
Workshop “Exploratory Chatbot- and Robotesting”
Wha
t by today’s definition is a robot? It’s a machine that gathers informati
on about its environment by input of sensors and based on this input chan
ges its behavior. Combined with machine learning and machine intelligence
the robot’s reactions over time get more and more adequate. The use of I
nternet of Things\, Big Data Analytics and Cloud technology make a robot
versatile. A Robot can come in many different shapes and forms. It’s not
just the metallic man. It may just as well be an autonomous vacuum cleane
r\, a self-driving car\, a chatbot or a personal digital assistant.
Te
sting Robots will become important for many testers. And with this I mean
both Testing OF Robots and Testing WITH Robots. For both angles it will
be important to use a structured approach. But with complex machines\, co
mplex environments and the aspect of machine learning\, it will not alway
s be possible to predict test outcomes up front. So the important approac
h of exploratory testing will become even more important to determine whe
ther the system under test behaves properly. Both in the sense of doing w
hat it’s supposed to do\, as in how it interacts with its environment in
a business process.
In this workshop you will experience by doing\, th
e testing of a small robot and the testing of a chatbot.
Of course I w
ill bring my own robot (R0B3 – “ar – null – bee – three”) for you to do s
ome hands-on testing\, both to test a robot and to use a robot in testing
.
Biography of Rik Marselis
Rik is a tes
ting expert from the Netherlands. He is one of Sogeti’s most experienced
management consultants in digital assurance and testing. As a test consul
tant and test manager he assisted many organizations in improving the qua
lity of their IT-systems and the way these systems support the business p
rocesses.
Rik regularly contributes to the testing profession through
research and development. He is a fellow in Sogeti's research network\, S
ogetiLabs\, and has contributed to a variety of articles and books on qua
lity and testing. His most recent publications include ‘Testing in the di
gital age\; AI makes the difference’\, ‘TMap HD’\, 'The PointZERO vision'
\, 'Quality Supervision'\, ‘Integrate Test Activities in Agile Projects’
and 'TPI NEXT'.
Currently he is investigating the consequences of Arti
ficial Intelligence and robotics on the quality & testing profession. Bot
h in the sense of "how to test an intelligent machine" as in "how to use
an intelligent machine for testing".
Rik is an accredited trainer for
TMap-\, TPI- and ISTQB certification training courses and has created and
delivered many bespoke workshops and training courses on test engineerin
g and test management.Rik's presentations are always appreciated for thei
r liveliness\, his ability to keep the talks serious but light\, and his
use of practical examples with humorous comparisons.
Rik is a fellow o
f Sogeti’s R&D network SogetiLabs. The R&D activities result in white-pap
ers\, articles and blogs about IT in general and testing in particular. O
n 1 June 2018 the new book “Testing in the digital age\; AI makes the dif
ference”\, of which Rik is one of the main authors\, will be published.Apart from his work at Sogeti\, Rik volunteers as the chairman of TestN
et (with almost 2000 members\, this is probably the largest independent n
on-profit association of testers in the world) and as a workgroup-member
(and former board-member) of ISTQB.
